Browser Encryption

By utilizing Digital Certificate technology, State Bank of Cross Plains ensures the accuracy and security of any data that is transmitted to us using our secure forms. Digital encryption technology utilizes a long set of codes to scramble and then decode information. A digital key is simply a very special number or group of numbers that is carefully chosen to have certain mathematical properties. Depending on the encryption algorithm being used the key may be a large random number or a set of related numbers. These keys are the basis of on-line identity verification. Once information has been scrambled using the public set of codes for PCCU, the only place they can ever be decoded is on our Secure Server. This data is not shared with or sold to any other institution or group.

Another very important part of this technology has to do with secure browsers. Most modern browsers easily handle encryption codes; however, if you are using an older version of the software, it would be wise to upgrade now. Then you know you have the best security protection available.

We require the use of a 128-bit secure browser with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to login to your account and perform transactions. Please note that eBANK! will work best when using Microsoft® Internet Explorer. If you are not using one of these browsers, or feel your browser does not meet the security requirements of State Bank of Cross Plains, use one of the following links below to download an upgraded browser.

  • A small window may pop up to tell you that this is a secure link and do you want to continue...
  • When it does switch over to a secure link, look at the link address up in the location window of your browser. Instead of the usual http:// you will notice that it has changed to https:// The 's' denotes Secure Mode. If that does NOT show up, you are not in secure mode.
  • Most browsers also have a small graphic that will pop up and stay in the lower right hand corner of the browser window to denote that you are browsing in a secure mode. A picture of a lock, similar to the one used in our secure graphic, is a good example.

Remember that once you've downloaded the proper browser, you must install it on your computer. Follow the browser manufacturer's instructions that appear on your screen.

Secure browsers employ SSL technology to communicate with servers. This technology encrypts—or scrambles—the communication (i.e., your account information), so it's virtually impossible for anyone other than State Bank of Cross Plains to read it.

The Loan, Mortgage, Check Stop and Credit Card applications on our site are all using this secured technology. Please note that emails are not secure transmissions so remember never to send account numbers, social security numbers or any other information you would like to keep private to our bank or anyone else in an email message.

How can I tell when my connection is secure? The padlock or key icon on your browser, indicating a secure connection, should appear locked AFTER you have successfully logged in to the website. The padlock icon may not appear locked or the key lock may appear broken on screens where you are not logged on and where we display general information about the site. However, you can be certain that any screen which displays or requests information about your account, username, password, application, or any other sensitive information is encrypted.

Username and Password

To access account information, you must provide a username and a password to enter the secure area of the site. Your password is not displayed when entered. If you do not provide this information, we cannot establish an online banking service for you.

How I can protect myself? Do not have Windows remember your password. When entering user and password information you may be presented with a question to have Windows remember your password information. Always click on No to refuse this. Never save password information.

Don't share your password. Never reveal your password to anyone. Never write it down where anyone can find it or figure out what it is. Change your password often, and be sure that you do not use common words that can be found in a dictionary, or numbers in a series. Try using birthdays combined with pet names, or sports teams combined with a birthday for example. Never access the banking site from a computer that an un-trusted individual may have access to.

Treat your online username and password with more care than you use for your automated teller machine (ATM) or credit card personal identification number (PIN). With the PIN, you need to present the card. Here you only have the password. In addition, you should make sure that no one is physically watching as you enter your password. Also, take standard precautions to keep your computer free from viruses.

eSecurity eSecurity also provides you added safety by helping ensure that only you can access your bank account. eSecurity is a picture and pass phrase that is a shared secret between you and the bank. When you see eSecurity you can be confident that you are at the legitimate bank web site, not an imposter site. Please see the security link on our home page for more information.

Logoff Please use our "Logoff" feature if you are going to be away from your computer for an extended period of time. "Logoff" will end your session and you will have to submit your username and password before entering the web site again. We strongly recommend that you shut down your browser to prevent others from using your access.

After a period of inactivity, your current session on the web site will automatically timeout. To restart your session, re-enter your username and password at the log in screen.

Network Security and Monitoring

Firewalls are used to shield State Bank of Cross Plains' systems and proprietary network from any unauthorized Internet traffic. The purpose of a firewall is to ensure only State Bank of Cross Plains traffic is allowed to pass to State Bank of Cross Plains' systems and networks—all other traffic from the Internet is rejected. Firewalls also create logs of network traffic that allow for centralized auditing and security monitoring. Once your information has been entered, State Bank of Cross Plains uses an encrypted network to transport data between all of our systems and our partners systems to make online banking secure and to protect your personal information. Ensuring the security of your financial transactions is an ongoing process at State Bank of Cross Plains. As such, we employ around-the-clock security monitoring of the State Bank of Cross Plains systems.
